October 1980 - Where were you?
I'm guessing you don't recall what you were doing in October 1980. That was the month in which the Cardiac Fitness Association (CFA) was officially created/registered as an operating charity. My how time flies when you're having fun, or not having fun at all : Thank you COVID19.
Weekly CFA classes operated without an extended interruption for over 39 years, until March 2020. How have you been coping for the past 6 months? I hope well. Have you been socializing in accordance with our provincial guidelines? I trust you have. Have you been exercising regularly? It's difficult but I hope you have.
Recently the Board has been in conversation with some CFA members who say they miss not participating with others at the clinic and seeing their fellow heart patients. They like feeling part of a group and participating in an effort that they believe is critical to their health and well being. We have also heard from members who: miss the discipline that regular classes with exercise logs gave them; the encouragement received from clinic staff and co-members; as well as the feedback and education the lectures gave.
As the CFA Board, we fear that if we do not have some activity happening, members will become disinterested, perhaps move on, and the clinic will gradually fade away. All your hard work and accomplishments at the clinic will be for naught.
We all realize that to start something at the clinic now, even if it was only walking the track, would be very difficult, and perhaps impossible given our current provincial guidelines and our COVID19 trends. However, we as the CFA Board want to start planning towards the reopening of the Clinic. We realize that reopening may be months down the road but to that end we need to gather information from you the members so that a safe, appropriate, and new approach for our cardiac classes is formulated and ready to be implemented when we are permitted to reopen.
Accompanying is a brief survey. Would you as a CFA member complete the survey and help us set the base for a new tomorrow. Thank you. John Burns and the CFA Board of Directors.
